Cubs break 1905 streak – not that streak
CHICAGO — All-Star Marlon Byrd became the first Cubs player in 105 years to be hit at least 16 times in a season, and he came around on two-run homers both times.
OUCH!
Plunked twice Sunday night, Marlon Byrd is climbing the list for the most times hit by a pitch in a single season in Cubs history.

Byrd led off a four-run second Sunday against Philadelphia’s Roy Halladay by getting nailed in the left thigh, making him the sixth Cub to be hit 15 or more times in a season and the first since Frank Chance got plunked 17 times in 1905.
Byrd scored on a two-run homer by Geovany Soto that stopped Halladay’s scoreless innings streak at 18, and the Cubs added two more in the inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Byrd got plunked again in the sixth — the fourth time he’d been hit in this series — and scored onAlfonso Soriano‘s 17th homer, making it 6-2. It was the third time in his career he’d been hit twice in a game and the second against Philadelphia this season.
Bill Dahlen got hit a Cubs record 23 times in 1898. Milwaukee’s Rickie Weeks has been hit 17 times and leads the majors.
